Betsey Johnson's Lower-Priced Line; Kim Kardashian Graffiti
LINCOLN CENTER—Last night, Betsey Johnson unveiled two new lines: Pink Patch, which is more gently priced, and Black Tag, which is a little more high-end contemporary. Check out these shots of the Pink Patch looks from our sister site. Not only are they classic Betsey—think plaid, pirate insignia, hearts, winking eyes, aggressive cuteness—but each piece costs under $100. [Racked National]
SOHO—Obviously, we don't endorse scrawling mean things about Kim Kardashian's ladyparts on the windowsill of Dash, her Spring Street store. But since we are sworn to the sacred obligation of covering New York City retail news, we feel duty-bound as journalists to inform you that someone has done just that. Evidence after the jump. Will You Wear Head-to-Toe Buffalo Plaid Next Fall? Y-3 Says Yes.
Every Fashion Week, the Y-3 show is the one where paparazzi swarm out front, photographing arriving celebrities and all sorta of spectacle. This season, however,Yohji Yamamoto's line for Adidas went with a more intimate approach, perhaps involuntarily as the show fell on the same night as The Grammys.
In a windowless, brick-walled rough space in Soho, editors instead of celebs sat front and center, watching the progression from classic black Yohji to candy apple red and all-over buffalo plaid, finally coming back to darker tones in flapping leather jackets with mustangs printed on the back. The theme for this collection—as there's always a sporty theme—was rebel horseback riding? We're not too sure, but we are sure that the fannypacks, the onesie and neon headbands on a few of the men were not fan favorites. The mussed braids on the girls and that full-length, double-breasted plaid coat, however? Very nice, but imagining Vogue's Grace Coddington wearing it, with her flaming hair, is making us dizzy.

Is It Easier to Sneak into Fashion Week if You're Male or Female?
Hopper and Weiss in their fashion disguises via Shine
Dan Hopper of VH1 comedy blog Best Week Ever and Piper Weiss of Yahoo women's site Shine just teamed up on a social experiment to determine which sex has an easier time crashing the shows at Lincoln Center. The results were inconclusive, but they did learn some important things about how the fashion industry works.
1.) It's much easier for guys to look fashion-y than girls. An unnamed "fashion expert" told Hopper and Weiss that if they wanted to fit in, they should dress like crazy people. Hopper assembled a bag of props including a hockey mask and a trucker hat, but ultimately just decided to wear Terry Richardson glasses. Weiss created an ensemble that involved a leotard, a Star Wars belt, and a hair bow. Hopper wound up looking like a fashion photographer; Weiss wound up looking like a lunatic.
Flash bulbs are the drug of choice during New York Fashion Week, for everyone from the models to the editors to the random passers-by outside the shows. Thus, there is much dressing for the camera, hoping that a lens focuses on the flamboyance. Each day during NYFW, we'll bring you the most obvious photog bait, as snapped by us.
These two girls spotted in the Tents at Lincoln Center look pretty normal, right? Compared to our past Photog Bait subjects, they are even well put-together, but they are examples of another sort of Fashion Week guest that loves to vogue before the cameras, the ones hoping to be shot by legit street style photogs (thinkThe Sartorialist, Jak & Jil Blog, etc). Here, however, we've got a case of trying too hard while not trying hard enough.
Did you also notice that their shoes match their jackets? Or that the one on the right is showing her midriff in a way that's more awkward than fashionable, since the outfit would look better with a slouchy, tucked-in top? And then the one on the left is doing a lingerie slip under crazy jacket thing, which is too too much though it succeeded in getting her pulled aside for photos? Yea, they're pretty and all, but the press credential slung out of sight on the right girl's neck says that they aren't models or magazine editors or famous, but in a dim light and after a few drinks, they could look like any of those.
